Accepting Jesus Christ as your personal savior involves understanding just what that means. You can get an idea by understanding what the phrase "Jesus Christ is my personal savior" entails on the surface. However, acceptance will also require deep reflection.
Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the son of God. He is kind and tends to his flock by educating them and caring for them. You may also hear him called a prophet of God. He is that as well, but he is much more in the context of the Bible. He is the son of God, but he is also God, according to John 1:1, 14. In the form of Jesus Christ, God came to the people of the Earth as a teacher and healer. He even forgave us our sins and died on the cross for us. Accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Savior is accepting that he is God, the creator and your sovereign Lord.
What is Salvation?
Some people struggle with the concept of needing a savior. What have you done that requires salvation? You will find that, according to the Bible, all of us are sinners and fall short of God's glory. We are perpetrators of evil, according to Romans 3:10-18. Because we have sinned, not only do we make God mad and are judged by him, but we deserve it. Because his punishments are infinite as he is infinite, according to Romans 6:23 and Revelation 20:11-15. That is why we need Christ Jesus to save us.
How Did Jesus Atone for My Sins?
According to Corinthians 5:21, when Jesus Christ died on the cross to bear the punishment for our sins, his punishment was eternal. This was in payment for the sins we have committed, according to Romans 5:8. Thanks to this sacrifice, we do not have eternity for our sins. When Jesus rose up from the dead, He showed that this act was sufficient and He is our Savior (John 14:6; Acts 4:12). His death was enough payment to atone for our sins and make us Holy in God's eyes.
Accepting Jesus Christ as a Personal Savior
To accept Jesus as your personal Savior, you have to understand Christianity. many people see Christianity as going to church regularly, avoiding sin or performing certain rituals. THIS IS NOT CHRISTIANITY. True Christianity is all about having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. That is all that is required for you to be a Christian. Just accept Jesus as your personal savior, trust Him and put your your faith in Him. You cannot get saved through anyone else or by doing good deeds. You have to personally accept Jesus Christ as your Savior. You have to know within yourself that his death was atonement for your sins. (John 3:16) Through His finished work, you will have eternal life and salvation.
When you are ready to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, you truly and honestly have to have faith in Him first. When you are ready to surrender your life to Christ, you can say the following prayer. However, please know that this prayer alone is not sufficient to grant you salvation through our Savior Jesus. It is all about your faith and a true change of heart. This prayer is simply a way of communicating your faith to God and thanking Him.
“God, I know that I have sinned against You and deserve punishment. But I believe Jesus Christ took the punishment I deserve so that through faith in Him I could be forgiven. I receive Your offer of forgiveness and place my trust in You for salvation. I accept Jesus as my personal Savior! Thank You for Your wonderful grace and forgiveness—the gift of eternal life! Amen!”
If you prayed that prayer and truly meant it you are now truly saved by Jesus! Now the LORD invites you to fellowship with Him through prayer and reading His word so you can grow wise, deepen your relationship with Him and become stronger in faith.
Timothy 3:15-17 (NIV) says, "and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
