If you are not familiar with the expression “the Romans Road to Salvation,” you are probably asking yourself what it means, exactly. But, before I explain, let’s discuss what salvation is. Salvation is the redemption of mankind from sin and the consequences of a sinful life, brought about by faith in Jesus Christ.

The Romans Road to Salvation is a powerful method of sharing the wonderful news of salvation using verses composed by the Apostle Paul from the Book of Romans in the Holy Bible. But, what does the Romans Road to Salvation really tell us?

The Romans Road to Salvation Tells Us . . .

  1. Why we need salvation
  2. How God provided salvation for us
  3. How we can receive salvation
  4. What the results of salvation are

1.) Why Do We Need Salvation?

We need salvation because we are all sinners, and the consequence of sin is death. Apostle Paul states in Romans 3:23, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Key words: all have sinned. Not a single person on the planet is exempt from this disease we call sin. None of us are perfect. We have all done things that are disagreeable to God. Romans 3:10 simply states: "There is no one righteous, not even one".

In Romans 6:23 the Apostle Paul goes on to explain the consequences of our sin. It states, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." The penalty that we deserve for our sins is death, both physical and spiritual. Without salvation, there is no hope for eternal life.

2.) How Did God Provide Salvation for Us?

God provided salvation for us in the form of his only begotten son, Jesus Christ. Romans 5:8 picks up where Romans 6:23 leaves off. Apostle Paul declares, "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Jesus Christ shed his blood and died for us when he was crucified. He bought us with his blood and redeemed us from our sins, and his resurrection proves that God accepted Jesus' death as the final payment for our sins.

3.) How Can We Receive Salvation?

We can receive salvation by having faith in Jesus Christ, accepting Him as our savior, and trusting that His blood was payment for our sins. We must confess with our mouths and believe in our hearts. The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 10:9, "that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:13 reinforces the message. Apostle Paul states, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Jesus Christ saved us all from eternal death.

4.) What Are the Results of Salvation?

The results of salvation are a peaceful relationship with father God through Jesus Christ, deliverance from eternal condemnation for our sins, and a cherished promise that we will never be separated from God and His love.

Apostle Paul shares this wonderful message with us in Romans 5:1. He states, "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ". In Romans 8:1, Apostle Paul assures us, "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus". Finally, in Romans 8:38-39, Apostle Paul beautifully proclaims, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

5.) How Do We Follow the Romans Road to Salvation?

To follow the Romans Road to Salvation, it starts with one simple step of faith. First, we must admit that we are sinners and deserving of death. Then, we must ask for forgiveness through the blood of Jesus Christ, confessing that Jesus paid the ultimate penalty for mankind’s sins, so that by faith in Him, we could be forgiven. A prayer, by its self, is not enough to save you, but it is by faith alone in Christ Jesus that gives us salvation.
